People are always changing and growing, and as we change, so do our style preferences!
This means that it’s no surprise that your beautiful, beige house you loved so much 5 years ago is now making you feel less than enthusiastic. The good news is just about any home can be updated and modernized to fit your style with just a few coats of paint. However, not everyone has the means to repaint a whole house exterior or hire a professional, so what can they do instead?
Here at The Repaint Specialists we want to help you feel great when you come home everyday, no matter what your budget, so we’ve come up with a simple solution to get you off on the right track!
You can dramatically improve the style of your home with something as simple as changing the colour of your front door! In fact, door painting (or repainting) is one of the most common DIY home projects out there, and if done right, it can come out stunning!
How To Get It Right
1. Choose Your Paint Wisely
The first thing we tend to think about when it comes to paint is colour. You want to pick a colour that not only matches the rest of your home, but also creates the vibe you’re looking for and matches your personality! You can use paint swatches or any one of the free apps available, such as the ones featured in this blog. However, you also want to consider QUALITY! It’s easy to fall into the discount trap, but we promise, using a high quality paint will save you from headaches, lost dollars, and regret in the long run. Aim for paint brands such as Behr, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin-Williams. If cost is really holding you back, try looking for these brands (and a colour you like) in the ‘mistint’ section!
2. Remove Everything Before You Begin
Before you begin painting, remember to remove all nails, hinges, door knobs etc., and be sure to place painter’s tape on any windows if your door has them!
3. Primer Is A Prime Idea
Before painting, always use a primer! It may be tempting to skip this step, but a primer will ensure a smooth professional finish. No one wants their front door looking amateur with blots, and uneven paint!
4. Paint The Corners First
Painting corners nicely requires a bit more accuracy with your brush strokes. Doing the corners first, before you get your brush covered in a ton of paint, helps give you more control over paint distribution! When the corners are done, you can now move on to the easy part of painting the middle!
5. Pay Attention To Details.
If you have a solid flat door, then you are going to have a simpler time with this one! However, if your door has intricate carvings and designs, it may be a good idea to cover these areas with tape, paint around them, and then use a finer brush with less paint to avoid flooding the crevices and keep your door looking beautiful!
6. Don’t Be In A Rush!
Take your time doing the project, and we promise you wont regret it! Start early in the day, so that you give the door plenty of time to dry completely before placing the door knobs and hinges back on! You wouldn’t want to ruin all the hard work you just finished!
